David Donaldson
Certified Home Inspector Licence #353000, Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter, National Construction Safety Officer

In addition to being a father to 5 children (ranging in age from 23 years to 15 months) living in Beaumont, Alberta with his wife of 16 years, David Donaldson is CWsquared - Home Inspections' Owner & Inspector. He started his building career in 2002 helping renovate a friend's residential rental units in downtown Edmonton. That friend then introduced him to the hiring manager at a large construction company.

David started as a labourer and completed each of his 4 years of Carpentry Apprenticeship with that company, finally becoming a Red Seal Journeyman in early 2007. He now participates (with Alberta Industry Training) in marking the same 4th year projects that carpenter apprentices build before they too become journeyman.

The inspiration for CWsquared's business name comes primarily from his mother, Laurie. One of her favourite groups to listen to was Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers. "Chop Wood, Carry Water" was a song that resonated with David. It's message is that to achieve true happiness in this life, one must provide service to others.

It also, likely not by coincidence, happens to be a Zen quote that reads “Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water.”

David's mother passed away when he was 16 but had already instilled in him, a solid work ethic and a strong desire to serve others in the best way that he knows how. Sharing building knowledge in a friendly, easy to understand format is that way.

David truly takes on every single home inspection as if it were his own home. You can trust that he will spend the time needed to provide a detailed inspection report after an in-depth visual inspection.

David isn't interested in doing 3 - 4 inspections a day. One cannot be genuinely thorough when speeding through an inspection & report. That would be a disservice to you and your possible future home.
