I'm very proud and excited to announce my new career in the home inspection business. It has always been a personal career goal to start my own business. It is also in an industry in which I was employed during high school and college. My years of working with my uncle on various construction projects, during high school with a local construction company, and then my college summer job with a public entity in highway construction, have evoked very fond memories and lessons which I carry to this day. Whether is was learning to correctly apply step flashing and roofing shingles on a dormer, applying pea gravel to a built-up flat roof, or simply digging footers for a foundation, I was thrilled to learn how and why in construction methods.
During my railroad career, my daily task usually required that I inspect locomotives per company and federal regulations. Later in my railroad career, I also served as a safety coordinator for my company and labor organization which required that we inspect customers' facilities for safe and efficient operations. Both of these types of inspections required meticulous and detailed observations to ensure the safety of all involved. In 2015, our team was awarded a CSX Transportation Service Star award for our safe and reliable service to a customer which resulted in a $20 million yearly revenue increase for CSX.
After I retired from CSX Transportation in 2016, I returned to UNCP taking course work in computer science and math which led to a secondary math teaching position. My goal was to become certified, and then be a substitute. I taught for three and a half years and received my NC teaching certification in 2025. This position taught me valuable lessons in communication and time management skills.
These are the skills and experience I bring to the home inspection business. I completed my 200 hours of classroom and field experience training through Inspection Certification Associates, and have passed the NC Home Inspector Exam and the National Home Inspectors Exam. I am currently working on various other certifications applicable to the home inspection business so that Sigma Home Inspection Services will be able to serve each client's needs and requests. I understand the stress that comes with purchasing a home, our current home is our sixth one. Let's make your home inspection detailed and thorough, with no surprises.
