About Jim:

Before Jim got his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Virginia Commonwealth University, he was a builder.  The grandson of a prominent builder, he began dropping a saw blade and swinging a hammer at an early age.  During high school and college, on the weekends, in the summers and term breaks, he worked for his best friend’s father, who owned a local construction company.  He began as a roofer and moved into framing, drywall and trim carpentry.  After a 7-year hiatus in Corporate Human Resources, Jim returned to construction, opening his own home renovation and repair business, which he operated successfully for 15 years in Hampton Roads, before turning his attention to the Home Inspection trade.

Jim has been a nearly life-long resident of the Hampton Roads community, and knows its history, its neighborhoods and its homes.

Jim is well versed in all aspects of new and historical construction methods and techniques, from timber and balloon framing to modern platform framing, and has a scrutinizing eye, and a keen ability to troubleshoot underlying issues that cause damage to homes, making suggestions for their effective remedy.

His corporate training and friendly demeanor enable him to effectively communicate with his clientele, and he is passionate about educating clients about their new homes.

Jim is Licensed through the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR)—as both a Certified Home Inspector and as a Building Contractor, has conducted over 2500 home inspections, and carries the distinction of being a CPI in good standing with InterNACHI—a global authority in Home Inspections.
